Band

Forster Public School has a developing band program which is an exciting opportunity for primary students. It is an excellent beginning to a great music education for your child. Through the program we aim to foster an interest in and an understanding of music.

The children in the band learn to play an instrument, also learn to read music and develop an appreciation for music. Most of the students learning a band instrument at Forster Public School find that this opens many opportunities for them to participate in music at high school and in local community groups.

Students in Year 3 - 6 may audition to join the Training Band, and later graduate to the Concert Band. Everyone is welcome to join the band, and we have a selection of instruments available for hire, while those with their own instruments are encouraged to join. Tuition is needed in order to participate in the band, and can be organised privately or through the school.

All band rehearsals are held in the MPC - School Hall. To ensure students don't miss out on class time, rehearsal is held before school.

•     Tuesday - 8.00 am - 9.00 am (Training Band)

•     Wednesday - 8.00 am - 9.00 am (Concert Band)

Throughout the year the bands take part in performances at school. An important part of participating in the FPS Band is committing to performances and competitions throughout the year. One of the benefits of being in a band is to experience the discipline and camaraderie from playing together in performances. Before enrolling your child in the band please consider whether you and your child are prepared and able to commit to these obligations.

The band usually participates in the following activities throughout the year:

•     Workshops with other local schools

•     Any available eisteddfod opportunities

•     Performing at special assemblies each term and other school events throughout the year.

Please contact the school for further information.
