Mobile Phone Policy

Mobile phones preamble

  • There is no serious current issue with regards to mobile phones at Forster PS.
  • Any phone brought to school is the responsibility of the student.
  • The school will not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to mobile phones. This applies to portable computer games, walkmen, ipods and similar devices.
  • Students should not bring mobile phones to school unless it is necessary. The school recognises that there may be safety aspects in which mobile phones are warranted. It is acknowledged that on some occasions students need mobile phones because they have after school situations where they may need to be able to contact parents or caregivers.
  • If mobile phones are brought to school they should be put away during lessons; they must not be turned on or used in classes, and this includes sending or receiving messages or using in-built cameras.
  • Any student who inappropriately uses a mobile phones (eg disruption to learning, threatening behaviour in the form of bullying, photographing other students without permission) will have the phone temporarily confiscated, contact will be made with parents and a discussion will be undertaken to resolve any issue. In a situation where there is improper filming during any school activity, the phone will be confiscated. The Parent/Carer of the offending student will be requested to delete the offending images. If they fail to do that the school will inform the parent/carer of the people filmed.
  • If the phone is taken from a student, it will be registered and secured.

Mobile phones policy

  • Telephones are available for use by students in the main office in the event of an emergency.
  • Students should not require mobile phones during school hours. This also applies to portable computer games, walkmen, ipods and similar devices. On some occasions students need mobile phones because they have after school situations where they may need to be able to contact parents or caregivers.
  • Students need to register their mobile phones. This is to be kept in the Front Office.
  • If mobile phones are brought to school they should be put away during lessons; they must not be turned on or used in classes, and this includes sending or receiving messages or using in-built cameras.
  • NOTE: No photographs can be taken of people who are unwilling to be photographed or unaware that they are being photographed.)
  • Abuse of mobile phones at school may lead to confiscation of the phones or other consequences such as the loss of privileges, use of the school reward & discipline level system, including suspension.
  • Forster PS will not take responsibility for mobile phones stolen, lost or damaged at school.
